MENTORING EUROPE is a european non profit organisation under French law. Its purpose is to promote volunteer mentoring of children and youth in local communities across Europe.
What is volunteer mentoring?
Volunteer mentoring is a one-to-one relationship between a volunteer adult and a child or youth lacking extensive family support. The aim is to enhance the personal development of the junior partner (mentee) in general or to achieve more specific and more short term goals such as overcoming behavioural problems, better school performance or a better integration into his/her environment. Mentor and mentee generally meet a few hours per week and pursue come positive joint activities.
The mentee and his legal representative must have asked for the arrangement and both must conform to the rules set forth by the local mentoring organisation.
The role of MENTORING EUROPE is to
- enhance public awareness about mentoring with the aim to find more volunteer mentors for the local mentoring organisations
- provide training seminars and material for local mentoring organisations
- conduct best practice studies among local mentoring organisations
- promote public/private partnerships in the field of mentoring
- promote corporate citizenship in the field of mentoring
- provide consulting services for new local mentoring inititiatives
- cooperate with national and international organisations and administrations interested in mentoring
